The governments of Nigeria and Turkey have agreed to partner together in the area of defence and security.
Â This decision was reached during a bi-lateral meeting between the Defence Minister of Nigeria Mansur Dan-Ali and his Turkish counterpart Mr. Nurettin Canikli held at Ministry of National Defence in Ankara.
Â The visit which is part of President Muhammadu Buhariâ€™s visit to Turkey for D-8 meeting also agreed to sign three Memorandum of Understanding on Military Cooperation Agreement (MCA) Military Training Cooperation Agreement (MTCA) and Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement (DICA).
Â When ratified by parliaments of the two countries the agreement will enable the training of personnel in both countryâ€™s military institutions and joint military exercises.
Â Speaking at the occasion, Nigeria Defence Minister urgedÂ the Turkish government to support the present administrations efforts in promoting global peace and security.
Â In his response the Minister of National Defence Turkey Mr. Canikli thanked Nigeria for containing the Boko Haram insurgency and call for closer cooperation with Nigeria which share a lot of similarities with Turkey.
